Overview
The Gateron Magnetic Jade Max and the Gateron Magnetic Jade Pro are two of Gateron's newest additions to their Hall effect Magnetic Jade line of switches. Has the Magnetic Jade become redundant or do these Gateron Magnetic Jade Max and the Gateron Magnetic Jade Pro bring something new to the table? Let's take a look!
Product Details

Design wise, both the Gateron Magnetic Jade Max and the Gateron Magnetic Jade Pro feature the updated top housing with the arc-shaped light diffuser to maximize the RGB shine through. One difference in design is the Gateron Magnetic Jade Max does not have the extra latches on the sides of the switch which exist on the Gateron Magnetic Jade Pro.
Switch Sound
The Gateron Magnetic Jade Max and the Gateron Magnetic Jade Pro have a very similar sound profile. At normal typing level it would be hard to discern the differences between the two. When actuating them at ear level and really listening for differences, the Gateron Magnetic Jade Max is marginally deeper than the Gateron Magnetic Jade Pro when both are used stock.
Both the Gateron Magnetic Jade Max and the Gateron Magnetic Jade Pro have a short travel distance of 3.5mm. The shorter travel distance combined with the closed bottom housing creates a harder and more solid sounding bottom out than some open bottomed Hall effect magnetic switches. When bottoming out, the Gateron Magnetic Jade Max and the Gateron Magnetic Jade Pro sound very similar. The Gateron Magnetic Jade Max sounds slightly sharper than the Gateron Magnetic Jade Pro possibly due to its PC stem in the Gateron Magnetic Jade Max which is a harder material than the POM stem in the Gateron Magnetic Jade Pro. For the top out sounds there more of a difference between the two, but still very similar in sounds due to their materials and design. The Gateron Magnetic Jade Max has a slightly more audible "pop" when topping out than the Gateron Magnetic Jade Pro. This could also be due to its harder PC stem, or the gold-plated spring could also have an effect when the spring decompresses.

Switch Feel
The typing feel of the Gateron Magnetic Jade Max compared to that of the Gateron Magnetic Jade Pro are very similar as well. They both have a solid feeling bottom out due to their close bottom housings and they both have a short travel distance of 3.5mm.
In terms of wobble, both the Gateron Magnetic Jade Max and the Gateron Magnetic Jade Pro fee tight and clean to type on since there is minimal stem wobble.
In terms of smoothness, both the Gateron Magnetic Jade Max and the Gateron Magnetic Jade Pro are incredibly smooth with no noticeable scratch or leaf/spring ping. Both switches come consistently factory lubed creating a very silky smooth typing experience. Some forums mention that the Gateron Magnetic Jade Max feels "sticky" when pressed off center but from our usage we have not noticed this. Both switches are smooth straight out of the box with tight tolerances.
One observation between the two switches is that the Gateron Magnetic Jade Pro has the potential to fit more securely on the plate/PCB assembly due to it having an additional latch on the top housing that extends to the sides of the switch to allow it to fit more securely on the plate.
So Which Switch Should You Get?

Things to Note
Before installing magnetic hall effect switches on your keyboard, check and ensure they are compatible with your keyboard. Depending on the design of the board, incompatible magnetic switches may damage the HE PCB.
