Overview
The Gateron Oil King, with new molds and excellent factory lubing, is one of the smoothest stock switches by Gateron.
Gateron Oil Kings are made of a completely opaque black material with Gateron's newest molds that feature the flipped Gateron branding. The Gateron Oil Kings are also one of the few Gateron switches that come with a black plated spring.
The Gateron Oil King rails come factory lubed, which allows them to feel even smoother than the Gateron CJ's which were known for their smoothness despite the Gateron Oil King and the Gateron CJ having similar molds.

Switch Sound
The Gateron Oil King, with their ink bottom housing, is consistent with the solid bottom out that their KS-3 nylon bottom housings provided. When bottoming out, the Gateron Oil King produces a solid deep sound profile. And when topping out, the Gateron Oil King produces a slightly thinner and medium pitched sound profile. Differences in the bottom out and top out sounds could possibly be due to the ink bottom housing and nylon top housing.
Here are some sound tests of the Gateron Oil King:
Switch Feel
The Gateron Oil King, with their consistent factory lubing, is as smooth stock as oil is slick. There is a thick layer of lube on the rails of the stems which helps provide the smooth stock experience.
For stem wobble, the Gateron Oil King still has some slight stem wobble. The stem wobble on the Gateron Oil King could be comparable to the stem wobble on the Gateron CJ. For housing wobble, the Gateron Oil King has tight housing tolerances that show no signs of wobble even after repeated opening and closing.
Things to Note
When opening up the switch, the Gateron Oil King might seem overlubed on the rails for those that hand lube their own switches but they do not feel overlubed during normal typing. When hand lubed, the Gateron Oil King produces the slightly deeper sound than the stock version. The Gateron Oil Kings would be a great fit for those looking for a firm deep sound profile.
